Me vie vs CV

In a World where technology has become not only an every day part of our lives, but also an essential tool for success, people have started using it in new ways, in order to be recognised and stand out from the crowd. The me vie is the new craze in trying to secure a job, uploading a video of yourself talking about your experiences, education and employment history as an insight into your personality for the sole purpose of securing a job. In a time where the term selfie was word of 2013, it is no surprise that technology is starting to play its part in the job seeking process.

So is a me vie going to get you your dream job? It might It might help you stand out from the crowd, it may help your personality shine and it may just help you clinch the job of your dreams. However, a firm that is recruiting has a lot of people to look at, having to go out of their way to watch a video may be classed as a waste of their time, and you may be immediately disregarded. People do still like to be able to leisurely read a CV in their own time, browse over it, and come back again, re-read any bits they are unsure of, remember a me vie is not an interview, as many questions can be answered by a piece of paper as by a video. You then have the case of the technophobe, the self-confessed hater of technology, who would simply not know how to watch your me vie video and would prefer a CV, at least they understand that.

Don’t get me wrong, personality is important, relationships with the people you work with are important, but will they alone secure you a job? The answer is easy, no. Experiences, employment history, your capability in completing a task are all other aspects of securing that role. So how do you get that balance?
