My six month update of being in Recruitment

Having reached the six month marker it is in most situations the amount of time it takes to fully settle into any new role and industry, and fully know whether you can picture yourself there in the future. I do indeed feel very happy with where I am and how I am progressing.

I have in three months since my last blog, developed my recruitment skills further, and I also genuinely feel like one of the Temporis family now. I have in six months grown into this role and I have adapted my own way of resourcing and registering candidates that is individual to me. My ability at picking out the right candidates for suitable roles has increased, with on a couple occasions the candidates I’ve spoken to being placed in roles, which is a great accomplishment.

With gaining more experience I feel more confident in all aspects of my role, especially when it comes to registering candidates. I now have the experience to adapt each new registration with how the candidate would like it to be styled; I won’t just follow standard procedure I will be guided by how the individual wants the conversation to flow. I also have developed the level of candidates I am speaking to, by registering a variety of levels from legal assistants to professional locums and highly qualified solicitors. This range is important with our agency, as we place candidates in roles that require all different levels of law experience.

This development has made me aware of how important it is to get to know a candidates individual requirements, so as to make sure a candidate is fully happy in any new role. This involves not only the job role itself, but other factors such as helping finding the right sort of accommodation for a candidate, for whilst they are staying away from home. This is where candidate knowledge is highly important, as what is most important to me is that the candidate is happy; not just in the role, but with the recruitment experience from start to finish; especially with stay away roles, it is important a candidate is comfortable on an evening after they have been working very hard in the day!

Candidate knowledge is essential as a resourcer, as I shortlist a variety of accommodation options suitable for each individual, dependant on their preferences. For example, I know some candidates prefer B&B’s, others like self-catering etc. This personal service we offer is what also sets us aside as different to other agencies, as candidate experience is essential to our values.

I have to say, my geographical skills have been put to test, and I also now randomly know all of the best spots for a city or country break!

Another aspect of the role that I have developed in the last few months is candidate catch up calls – I now have strong relationships with quite a few of our candidates and it is lovely to have catch ups now and again to keep details up to date. They are also highly useful to see if your circumstances have changed and if you are still interested in looking for roles. It also lets us know the urgency of your job search, as if you are immediately available as soon as we know, your name is put to the top of our list for current availability.

Who knew that in six months I would have developed my skills into becoming a confident resourcer who is happy to deal with a range of responsibilities. I also look forward to the next few months of learning more about recruitment, and especially learning not only the locum side of recruitment, but the permanent side as well, since we now have developed our permanent division. Recruitment can be stressful at times, for both the candidate (and the agency!) but the satisfaction of knowing a candidate is happy in a role, because of all our assistance with our individual roles that amount to placing them in that firm, makes it all worthwhile.
